When your roof is well-maintained and looked after, shingles can last anywhere from 15 to 30 years. However, storms, tree branches, and other elements can cause them to get damaged and wear out quickly. In this article, we will go over some of the signs that your shingles are damaged and should be replaced.

How to Tell if Your Shingles are Damaged

A common sign your shingles are damaged is if you notice water damage or a leak from your attic. If your attic is damp, moldy, or leaking, then there is a good chance your shingles are not working properly and are letting water get through your roof. If this is the case, it would be worthwhile to have a professional inspect your roof and find out the cause of the issue.

Wind and severe storms can cause the most damage to your shingles. During a bad storm, it isn’t uncommon for shingles to be torn off the roof and go missing. Missing shingles from your roof is a clear sign that there is a problem that needs to be repaired.

We recommend that you perform a visual inspection of your roof at least once every 30 to 90 days and especially after bad weather. A visual inspection will help you catch any damage and call us before the damage turns into a costly repair.

When you perform your visual inspection, look at your shingles for signs of warping, cracking, and curling. These are all signs that your shingles are old and damaged and should be replaced. If you suspect your shingles are damaged, give us a call right away.
