Residential Roofing FAQs

Here at Freedom Roofing, Windows and Siding LLC, we understand that many of our customers have a lot of questions when it comes to residential roofing. While we’re always happy to speak with you and address your concerns, we wanted to provide answers here on our website to a few of the more common questions we get asked.

How long can I expect my residential roof to last?

It will depend on the type of roofing you have. Shingle roofs, which are among the most popular residential roofing materials, typically last between 15 and 20 years with proper maintenance. It’s important to note that proper maintenance includes regular cleaning and prompt repairs; failing to do either of those things can dramatically reduce the lifespan of your shingle roof.

What is the timeframe for a residential roof replacement?
Residential roofing services don’t tend to take an extremely long time. In general, you can expect a roofing replacement to take between 1 and 3 days for an average-sized house, as long as the weather is agreeable and there are no supplier issues.
What kind of material is the most popular for residential roofing?
Asphalt shingles are the most popular roofing material in the United States, mostly due to how affordable they are without compromising on appearance and functionality.
Can you just put new shingles on top of my old ones?
While it’s possible to place new asphalt shingles over existing ones, this is something we strongly discourage. Not only will you double the weight of your roof, thus increasing your odds of structural issues down the line, but any underlying problems with the roof will also not be addressed. It’s always better to completely address any roofing issues rather than try to cover them up.
